On Friday, November 26, 2014 (9:45am) I took my 1996 Toyota Camry LE to Steven at Midas Auto Service Experts, #914, 1106 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, Georgia 30068 for a routine oil change. Midas checked my oil first, without any oil change. Apparently the vehicle has multiple leaks. After inspecting the car, Midas gave me an estimated repair of $1,794.94. No charge for the inspection. I definitely wanted a 2nd opinion/estimate, so I brought the Camry to a gentleman seated at the right wearing glasses at Honest-1 Auto Care. (10:24am) When discussing service, I asked if Honest-1 checks for leaks prior to initiating oil change service, to which he replied, "Yes, we'll take care of it for you." Work order # 0000004988; Invoice # 0000004197. After maybe 20 minutes, the bearded gentleman seated at the left tells me the vehicle is definitely leaking oil and that they would need to "clean it off" to determine where it is leaking and that it would be about $40.00. I agreed and waited another 20 minutes. Once finished, he said the total was $66.44. I then asked what happened to the $40.00 quote. He replied, "We changed the oil, too."
H Rodney - Thanks for the feedback. I think there was a mis-communication here. I wrote your ticket and thought you wanted an oil change, not just for us to look it over for leaks. The technician inspected your Camry, noted that there were multiple leaks, recommended cleaning/de-greasing the engine and adding a dye to it to aid in identifying the location and severity of the leaks. My service manager discussed that with you and proceeded with that process and the oil change (again because I had put it on the work order). Unfortunately I was not at the front desk when you checked out and my service manager did not realize you had not authorized the oil change. I will give you a credit back for the oil change - I need you to contact me to be able to process it. I do think you should be aware, however, that just because your vehicle is leaking oil doesn't mean that you should not change it. If you continue to operate the car you need to change the oil per the manufacturer's recommendations. Your car had been driven over 4000 miles since the last oil change at our shop so it appears to us that the oil change was needed.
